How to Make Your Flower Bouquets Last Longer
They are a special gift that marks a unique moment — an unforgettable memory to celebrate special days, say “I love you” in a different way, or simply add a special touch to everyday life.
That’s why learning how to preserve a flower bouquet is a common question: how can we fight time and enjoy it to the fullest?
Of course, being natural flowers, their lifespan is limited, but knowing a few simple details can help keep them in perfect condition and let you enjoy them for a little longer.
The right environment
Avoid heat, direct sunlight, and strong air currents. These three factors accelerate the aging of your bouquet. Also, avoid sudden temperature changes.
Water care
One of the most important aspects of bouquet care is the water your flowers live in.
First, don’t overfill the vase. Seven to ten centimeters of water are enough to keep your flowers fresh.
Change the water every other day and keep the vase clean.
A trick to prevent bacteria from wilting your flowers is to add a little white vinegar per liter of water and a splash of lemon juice.
You can also feed your flowers by adding sugar or mineral salts. To make these, dissolve two aspirins in warm water, let the mixture cool, and pour it into the vase. Repeat this process each time you change the water.
Remove Wilted Flowers
Take out any wilted flowers to prevent them from affecting the fresh ones.
Trim the Stems
Cut each stem diagonally, about one centimeter. This helps the flowers absorb water better and stay hydrated.
Remove the Wrapping
Bouquets often come wrapped in cellophane or paper to protect them during transport. However, removing it is essential, as the wrapping prevents proper oxygenation of fresh flowers.
Caring for a bouquet of flowers is a way to prolong the beauty of a special moment. With these simple steps, you can keep the essence of that gift alive and enjoy its color, fragrance, and energy much longer.
Flowers remind us of how fleeting and beautiful life can be. When we give them the attention they deserve, they reward us with their splendor a little longer. After all, caring for them is also a way of cherishing the small gestures that fill us with joy.
